Picnic baskets are perfect items to present as gift to friends and family who frequently take travel excursions or holiday vacations. Investing in picnic basket or picnic tote is commendable idea for people who appreciate picnics.

There are numerous types of picnic baskets obtainable in the neighborhood stores. The price varies, based on the variety of food and beverage storage compartments. Frequently, the fabric used for creating the basket is a significant factor in the price of the basket.

There are rustic handcrafted bamboo/rattan picnic baskets. These are created with strict attention to craftsmanship to help make the basket last a lifetime of use. They are hand-woven with a combination of bamboo and rattan material that gives toughness and durability. Though they are comparatively costly, you’ll find numerous companies online that on occasion make discounted rates on them.

There are moderate priced oval-shaped picnic baskets made of this bamboo/rattan combination materials. The interior of the picnic basket is lined with a durable PE(polyethylene) lining. You have your choice of colors and prints and accessories that come with the basket. Some picnic baskets offer blankets, table cloths, flatware, dinnerware salt & pepper shakers, napkins and wine glasses to accommodate 2 to 6 persons in your picnic party.

Another type of picnic basket is called a Suit-case style with wine and cheese basket. This style does not offer the flatware and dinnerware but instead it has a cheese knife and cutting board, waiter style corkscrew and, wine glasses. Picnic Ideas in Northern Tennessee

Almost everyone who travels knows of the many choices of activities to do near the Smokey Mountains including Gatlinburg area. Just a bit north of Gatlinburg is Greeneville, TN which has notable history. President Andrew Johnson began his political career in this town. He lived in Greeneville a lot of his adult life here.

When thinking of activities to do near Greeneville, there local parks for picnicking, kids playgrounds, and also 100+ acre McMillian Catfish Farm just outside of Greeneville where people can bring their horses to ride the hills, fish in several catfish ponds that are open to the public.

There are several marked trails for hiking also. These are not difficult trails at all nor are they not flat trails, you'll be walking/hiking but a good incline some of the time. There is plenty of trail room too. You won't be on a skinny path, so there is plenty of room for all people.

At the top of the hills there are plenty of panoramic views for people to stop and rest with possible a summer picnic. This is just the ideal place to bring your picnic backpack set for a day hike. Bring plenty of extra bottled water.

On really hot days, you could bring that picnic backpack set with a waterproof blanket and settle down in the lower, cooler area for your summer picnic under the trees.

One point I'd like to add, there would be no fear of bears in the area. You might see some wild turkey in the afternoon, a bunny hopping across your path or a deer in the morning.

So if you are in the NE Tennessee area, and are looking for something to do, pack your picnic backpack set and set your sights on McMillian Catfish Farm. Bring your fishing poles too, for a day of fishing. Please see the home site for McMillian Catfish Farms for further information.

Memorable Picnic for two

* Nice bottle of wine to top off the meal
* Chips, crackers, dips or spreads to complete the meal

Whether you are a new couple or old lovers, a picnic for two date, is a perfect way to enjoy each others company or reconnect, if needed.

Even if you are bringing a bottle of wine, you should also plenty of bottled water to avoid dehydration, especially if you are going to out on be a very hot day. Remember the utensils, cups, glasses, napkins, and any other accessories that you might need. There are backpack picnic sets and picnic baskets available for purchase now currently contain everything you, some even come with waterproof picnic blankets. You just add the food, drinks, wine, and where you want to go.

Be Prepared for Controllable Issues

You should to be prepared for any weather you may encounter. A summer rain shower can spring up rather quickly, so you need to be prepared. But you never know that actually might be refreshing and fun. Pack a warm windbreaker in the cooler months and that waterproof picnic blanket that came with your backpack picnic set might become more useful than just to sit on.

Bring along towels for an unexpected swim, or that rain shower. You might also want to bring a first aid kit. You never know when you might need mosquito repellent, so be sure that is packed in also. If you plan to be adventurous, you should also packing a flashlight and map in your backpack picnic set.

Picnic Scavenger Hunt for Kids

Are you forever looking for things to keep your kids busy during summer break?
Summer is better with a picnic complete with a picnic basket. I bought a picnic basket from an online store. I gave this as a prize or treasure, I should say, for my kids one day filled with breakfast munchies & goodies they like.

Then I made a scavenger hunt through my house and property. I started by making foot prints out of colored paper on the floor, from their bedroom doors, one morning before they woke up. These prints led them to the first clue and started a fun day, they had to follow the steps to the first clue and then on to the next. They found instructions throughout the house and property leading to the next clue. They knew there was a prize at the end of the hunt and were so excited to keep going to find all the clues. I had put the prize picnic basket up in their tree house and in the end the clues led them to the house.

I think this summer I will plan another surprise for the kids again. I hope to come up with another good idea. Maybe a picnic backpack might be the prize or treasure this time.

I hope this gives parents an idea for them to do for their kids this summer. With finances tight in this recovering economy, this was inexpensive way to create a fun day. Buy a picnic basket or picnic backpacks from picnicbaskets-n-packs.com, invite your kid’s friends over, and have a great summer.

Protect Your Picnic Food with an Insulated Basket

Now that summer is almost here, many people are ready to get outside and enjoy the sun and warm weather. Many are looking forward to a family picnic or cookout. But having a plan for your perishable food you take outside is extremely important. Remember that in hot weather any perishable food items must not set out for longer than one hour. It is a good idea keep the perishable items in an insulated basket or an insulated cooler until ready to serve. Ice is good to keep in the insulated basket, but it will melt faster than a freezer pack in the heat of the day and using a freezer pack will help avoid water left over from the melted ice. It is also wise, to just take in your insulated basket just enough perishable items that can be consumed at one sitting. This would avoid leftovers that need to be kept cold. Your drinks should be stored in a separate insulated cooler, to avoid opening and closing the food cooler. Also while not in use, place the insulated cooler or basket of food in a shady spot and cover with a blank to retain the cold.

Be aware when grilling or cooking meat to bring the food to proper temperature on grill before serving. As many people, know this is especially true when cooking pork or chicken. Chicken must be cooked to an internal temperature of 165 to 175 degrees to kill any salmonella.
Pork cooked to 150 degrees is efficient to kill the trichinosis.

Many insulated coolers or insulated baskets now a days come with a full set of utensils for your picnic. There are many variety's to choose from. So enjoy your summer and have many picnics, just remember your food should be returned to the insulated cooler or your insulated basket as soon as possible after you eat. Enjoy.
